MP accused of cruel racial offence will not seek re-election according to social media posts online

Bob Stewart, 74, who has represented Beckenham since about 2010 will not seek re-election following a series of legal issues over his racism.

Mr Stewart said in a post on the social media platform: “Serving Beckenham as its member of Parliament for 13 years has been an honour and privilege.

“I am incredibly grateful to everyone who has given me this opportunity.

“However, it is time for a new candidate, so I will not be seeking re-election at the next election.”

Earlier this year, he was infamously found guilty of racially abusing a demonstrator after telling the individual to ‘go back to their country (Bahrain.’)
