Twitter ‘s text message based 2FA is now no longer free, here’s what you need to know

Twitter has indirectly announced that its text message based 2FA service (that’s two factor authentication folks) is no longer free beginning in a few weeks. According to the bewildering announcement, the service will now only be available to people whom have paid their $8 a month or if you’re on an iPhone $11 a month. Google Authenticator (which remains free) is an excellent alternative to authenticate an account and can be downloaded from an App or Play store on a mobile device or tablet.

The announcement only hits the text based 2FA which means anyone who uses their mobile phone number to receive one of those random codes now has to disable it. Twitter did issue a warning on the notice citing that if users do not disable it — they may lose access to their account.
