Twitter is facing sanctions and stiff penalties in Europe for abruptly censoring the press

Elon Musk ‘s Twitter is facing steep criticism across Europe today after abruptly suspending a series of tech journalists over their sharing of links leading to ElonJet (the jet tracking site that has been available and public information for a very long time.) Musk announced earlier this week a series of new rules surrounding the sharing of locations on the app after an unverified claim that his son was stalked by an unknown man in a car.

Vera Jourová of the European Union announced on Twitter “The EU’s Digital Services Act requires respect of media freedom and fundamental rights. This is reinforced under our #MediaFreedomAct,” Jourová said in a post on Twitter, adding that Musk “should be aware of that.”

This news also comes amid reports that Twitter suspended Mastadon for the same reason although all of these claims by Twitter are under scrutiny. CNN Business notes that after review it found that its journalist Mr. O’Sullivan did not actually share the billionaire ‘s direct location for example.
