A white home owner identified as Andrew Lester is now facing serious charges for intentionally shooting an innocent Black teenager. According to the DA ‘s office in Kansas City Missouri, authorities have now hit Lester with two felony charges related to the shooting of 16-year-old Ralph Yarl whom he shot in the head and a second time right after in his body. Police officials per multiple reports have acknowledged the ‘racial’ components of the case.

He has been charged with first degree assault and armed criminal action in the shooting of Yarl. He was not immediately arrested on Monday as the news broke. In total the charges carry 10 to 30 years behind bars, or life in prison, prosecutors said.

Yarl according to his family was sent to retrieve his siblings on the evening of 13 April. Cops were called to the area around 10pm after complaints of gunshots in the area. Yarl had reportedly mistaken the street and ended up in the wrong neighborhood.

“The defendant is charged with [a Class] A felony,” Clay County Prosecutor Zachary Thompson said at a Monday press conference. “It’s the highest level offense in the state of Missouri.”
