Start your Morning Here: Trump denies accountability, Stefanik ‘s rise to MAGA, Renner’s terrifying accident

Happy Monday everyone and welcome back to reality following a long holiday weekend for many. In this edition of Start your Morning, we have several major news events from over the weekend.

  1. Marvel star Jeremy Renner is in critical condition today.

According to reports, Jeremy Renner was involved in a serious snow plow accident over the weekend near his remote mansion in Reno Nevada. Early reports indicate he is expected to recover but remains in critical condition. No further information is available at this time.

2. Kevin McCarthy is struggling to secure speakership in the U.S house and is already conceding concessions to hardline Republicans.

McCarthy who is vying to become the next House Speaker is struggling to secure the rights to do so. According to reports, McCarthy has now begun issuing concessions to hardline Republicans who were once very much against his attempts at such a role. For example, one report indicates that McCarthy is now willing to drop the required threshold to 5 in an instance in which lawmakers want to remove the Speaker of the House. Some Republicans, however, like controversial and often scandal plagued Rep Matt Gaetz want that number dropped to just one. It appears in more instance than one that some Republicans are looking for a nuclear option to install a further right-wing Speaker if McCarthy were to actually fail.

3. Dubai has dropped its once troubling 30% tax on alcohol

Officials in the Dubai have announced that the infamous 30% tax on alcohol no longer exists at least for one full calendar year. According to the government, the move is part of a wider effort to attract more foreign workers; tourists, and overall foot traffic in the country. The move also means that those who are otherwise legally allowed will be allowed to get liquor licenses for next to nothing in the country. It is overall a wider effort amongst Gulf countries to continue to attract lots of foot traffic and people into their countries. In Dubai alone in 2022, more than $22billion was spent throughout the year.

4. Times Square over in New York City was attacked over the weekend leaving 3 NYPD officers seriously injured

New York City saw an extremist attack its officers over the weekend during the anticipated NYE celebrations. According to early reports, the attacker has been identified as 19-year-old Maine resident Trevor Bickford. Bickford reportedly wielded a long machete before slashing and critically injuring 3 NYPD officers just blocks away from the heavily guarded Times Square area where revelers were partying.
