Astronomers have discovered a new asteroid, if future generations can’t stop it — earth may cease to exist as we know it

While it won’t impact our generation or those in the near immediate future — a newly discovered asteroid may pose a severe risk to earth in the distant future. According to researchers, a new asteroid has been discovered that appears to contain enough strength and length to all but obliterate earth. That is assuming that sometime in the next 1000 years or so it actually makes impact with our planet.

And it may. According to researchers, the asteroid is in the area between Earth and Venus which is very difficult to explore because of the sun’s intense glare. There aren’t many readily available telescopes that can do so except for one in Chile.

The asteroid one of three is understood to have been detected using the Dark Camera which is located on the Victor Blanco telescope in Chile. It is one of three discovered in the difficult to explore area according to Space.com.

But the Astronomical Journal has more.
