A decision that is understood to be on its way next month in the landmark case brought on by Mississippi. US website Politico released what appears to be a draft opinion on the case indicating that the court’s conservative majority will strike down the landmark 1973 law that gave women the right to have an abortion nationwide.
The extraordinary leak is like nothing else to come from the court in recent years. It is unclear who leaked the memo or perhaps why. As many suspected both Kavanaugh and Barrett sided with the majority to overturn the law. The announcement wouldn’t technically come until the case is heard in June.
The justices who appear to have voted in favour are: Clarence Thomas, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh, Samuel Alito and Amy Coney Barrett.
