Joe Biden: The U.S does not support Taiwan’s independence

In a glaring pair of comments, the United States has declared that it does not support Taiwan’s freedom despite increased aggression and authoritarian threats from China — the very country Taiwan escaped from after decades of authoritarian rule and terrifying martial law.

Fun fact: Taiwan held its first Democratic election in 1996 after kicking China out for good.

According to Reuters, Biden made the comments following the election that took place on the island this week. In a victory, Democratic politicians on the island managed to swing a huge defeat against China’s aggression by outright refusing to elect the very party member that was deeply embedded in China’s doings.

“We do not support independence…” Biden said according to the outlet.

The bizarre declaration comes as many parts of the world are under varying threats of authoritarian rule including America the very country Biden represents.
