All you need to know about the arrest of Huawei ‘s leading lady

China’s mobile phone technology maker Huawei is in the news today, as uh, Mrs Meng was arrested by Canadian authorities at the request of the U.S. According to Canadian authorities in Vancouver, the Department of Justice, quietly issued a warrant for Meng’s arrest if and when she entered territory where they lawfully request extradition (or even flat out arrest her themselves).

According to court documents, the U.S, alleges that Huawei knowingly violated U.S sanctions against Iran — by knowingly shipping their products and technology pieces to the country over the past several years. Huawei, of course, denies the claims — although wouldn’t elaborate any further.

The woman at the center of the arrest is Meng Wanzhou. Wanzhou, 46, is the daughter of Huawei ‘s founder. Wanzhou also happens to double as the company’s CFO, uh, making her quite the powerful lady in China.

China is of course, uh, seething at the arrest. According to Chinese officials, uh, the arrest of Wanzhou is “completely unjust” per officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity. Officials fear that Xi Jinping May suspend the trade-war truce, essentially, sending China into full scale war with the United States.
