A shocking case of abuse of power and sexual assault is unfolding in New York City. According to police, Zhi Alan Cheng raped more than 50 unsuspecting women using a K95 mask with cotton balls inside soaked with liquid in one of those cases. Cheng allegedly committed his heinous accounts across the world in Vegas; San Francisco, New York, and Thailand.
It gets much worse. According to prosecutors, they’re unsure at this time just how many victims Cheng likely has considering he traveled to numerous different cities allegedly attacking unsuspecting women. In the case against him, Cheng was reportedly first caught by police after his own former girlfriend came to after what she says she was drugged and raped only to find footage of it soon after.
Cheng was initially arrested and charged back in December 2022.
Footage that is understood to have contained dozens of videos assaulting other women. In that case, Cheng is accused of suffocating the woman with a K95 mask that contained cotton balls inside with some form of liquid. Small brown bottles were found at the time similar to brown bottles also discovered previously in his apartment.
The shock discovery led police to Cheng which then uncovered that he also targeted his own patients at the New York City hospital he had long been employed at which was NewYork-Presbyterian Queens.
According to available court information, some of the initial attacks included some of the darkest New York City has seen in years.
Investigators say that back in 2021 Cheng groped and assaulted a 37-year-old woman who was unconscious at the time inside the Queen ‘s hospital.
Sometime shortly after this attack he raped another womman he had met on a dating app.
Following this attack, prosecutors say he assaulted another woman this time a 19-year-old woman the day before she was due to get her gall bladder removed. The young woman told police that at the time Cheng had accidentally injected her with some kind of subtance that made her fall asleep. When she woke up, the doctor was no longer in the room. She later experienced severe pain in her abdomen.
Some of the assaults are believed to have taken place overseas in places like Thailand. It is unclear how many of them occurred overseas at this time.
