Trouble is on the horizon for lying GOP incoming Congressman George Santos. According to authorities in Brazil, the government is in fact reopening a fraud case dating back to when Santos was about 19 years old. Authorities allege that a then young Santos used a stolen checkbook to make a series of unauthorized purchases.
Authorities have confirmed that the case was reopened after they were finally able to locate him after more than a decade. Santos had been in the wind since having left Brazil and it is unclear if he is willing to cooperate with police. Police are understood to be preparing to send American officials a request to notify Santos of pending charges against him.
According to the New York Times, the case dates back to 2008. The Times was the first to report that the case was being reinstated.
