Los Angeles has issued a warning that mask mandates may soon return amid a rise in COVID-19 cases

Indoor mask mandates may soon be coming back to Los Angeles. According to the city’s Democratic-led supervisory team, the city may soon have no choice but to reinstate its indoor mandate amid a rise in COVID-19 cases.

As of right now, the city is recording 3,186 daily Covid infections a large increase from the 1,000 daily cases recorded at the start of November. It is also recording eight deaths each day. Dr Barbara Ferrera the city’s top doctor and health official has revealed that the region has went from low to medium rating(s) in its COVID-19 health watch. By next week, if the trends continue the region is set to soar to high alert.

We would be back to say our health care system is getting stressed out, we need to slow down transmission,’ Dr Ferrer said during a news conference Thursday.

‘We’ll have to look at the rate of increase and what we’re seeing in terms of that to decide what that time frame [to reinstate masks] would be,’ she added.
