EU officials have responded to Elon Musk ‘s purchase of Twitter reminding him that even he has to follow the law

Bloc lawmakers have responded to American media reports that billionaire Tesla founder Elon Musk has formally purchased social media giant Twitter.com. The EU ‘s comments come just days after the bloc confirmed a new set of legislative bills that are coming into action over the course of several months. Formally called the Digital Services Act — it aims to help reign in the troubling social media and internet sector that has largely gone unchecked even given its enormous power.

It remains to be understood exactly which direction Elon Musk is going to take the newly private company.

EU commissioner and prominent regulator Thierry Burton made the comments on Twitter. Concerns over Twitter ‘s buyout have been rampant for days as some believe Musk will transform the site into a hateful town square with little recourse or consequence.

“Mr. Musk knows this well,” Breton tweeted. “He is familiar with European rules on automotive, and will quickly adapt to the Digital Services Act.”
