Despite more than a week’s worth of indications that he’s onboard Joe Manchin in fact does not appear to be on board with the mammoth spending package in Washington. According to the now betrothed Senator, he will not support the bipartisan version $1.75T spending bill until more clarity about said bill is brought on. By clarity, he apparently is targeting the claim that the bill does not fully explain the consequences the national debt and the like will face because of it.

“I’m open to supporting a final bill that helps move our country forward, but I am equally open to voting against a bill that hurts our country,” he said in a warning shot to his party.

“As more of the real details outlined in the basic framework are released, what I see are shell games and budget gimmicks that make the real cost of this so-called $1.75 trillion dollar bill estimated to be twice as high if the programs are extended or made permanent,” he said.

But Manchin has switched his tune again. Earlier this week, it was indicated in numerous reports that Manchin was signaling his initial support for the beginning framework. Initially, the original bill was about twice the size of $1.75T however was then lowered at the demands of just two people: Krysten Sinema and Joe Manchin.

Manchin on Monday in turn took aim at his progressive colleagues who are calling his foul on his refusal to represent his constituents.

“For the sake of the country, I urge the House to vote and pass the bipartisan infrastructure bill — holding this bill hostage is not going to work in getting my support for the reconciliation bill,” he said.”I for one won’t support a multi-trillion dollar bill without greater clarity about why Congress chooses to ignore the serious effects of inflation and debt that have on our economy and existing government programs,” he said.
