I tried Teladoc for the first time so you don’t have to yourself, here’s how that went

Teladoc is a virtual doctor service that as you guessed it brings the doctor to you literally at home. As someone who is “invisably disabled” (because of a car crash) I finally gave Teladoc try because of its convenience and the fact it was partially induced by the pandemic. I’ve always been weary of services like Teladoc because despite how it may seem I don’t often like entering my information on the internet.

In the U.K Teladoc is known as Best Doctors. They are the same organisation just operating under different names due to the country difference.

The service as I have learned is actually fairly affordable (even if you don’t have insurance.) Off the top plus I’ve found about Teladoc is that despite never having seen you in person they can send prescriptions to just about any pharmacy within a few minutes. Now obviously if you’ve got a serious health emergency, they advise you to call 911 instead of your Teladoc virtual provider.

But the convenience (especially during the pandemic) of turning to Teladoc for small aches and pains; the common cold, and other things have made the struggle of the pandemic a little better. The physical doctor’s office is in fact one of the last places I want to be now or any time in the future for obviosu reasons.

Pros:

1. Usually get a doctors call or video chat within about 10 minutes (all four times I’ve used it I’ve gotten ahold of my doctor in less than 6.)
2. Very friendly doctors and usually pretty good with their expert advise.
3. They take your care very seriously. If they suspect something more serious is wrong, they will ask you to call 911.
4. They do virtual health screens that better allow them to understand who you are (plus if you have an Apple watch on hand as it connects to the app for health purposes.) I have a series 5 which allows the app to see my heartrate; sleep stuff, and more.
5. They accept most insurances and have a fast turn around time for approval.

Comments: There’s no need to visit the doctor for anything minor anymore. Save yourself a trip to the emergency room unless it is absolutely necessary. Teladoc/Best Doctors are/is far more affordable than the outrageous fees you’ll find (in the U.S at least) going to the ER.
