Amid chaos and widespread impersonation Twitter’s pay-for-play verification system has been suspended

In wake of mass impersonations; fake accounts, spam bots, and well downright chaos — Twitter has suspended its Twitter Blue service indefinitely as many thought would happen. As the service rolled out this week, it only took a few hours before people jumped on the chance to have a blue verification check and almost immediately caused chaos around the world.

From fake accounts like Lilly (the pharma bros); Nestle, Nintendo, George Bush, Tony Blair and more all of these brands and or personalities have all been impersonated this week alone. It is one of many examples of what advertisers and the general public meant by the direction in which Musk is actually taking the company — also why many advertisers are abandoning ship altogether.

Sources told Reuters on Friday that the offering has been dropped entirely although this has not been confirmed by Twitter itself. Bazaar Daily was able to confirm though that as of this writing the ability to ‘subscribe’ to Twitter has been taken away. It does appear that accounts that did subscribe, however, will remain subscribed and continue to receive their Twitter Blue subscription. Going forward in the future, though, it is unclear what direction the service would or will actually take.
