No Knock Warrants – Explained

Following the murder of Breonna Taylor many have Googled; researched, and asked their peers what exactly a no knock warrant is. A no-knock warrant is defined as a warrant that authorises U.S police officers to essentially forgo knocking before bursting into somebody’s home.

Which is exactly what happened to Breonna Taylor as she was shot 8 times for no reason. Police under the terms of such a warrant are allowed to enter a property or the property in question without prior notice.

They’ve existed since the dawn-of-time and became a semi-regular component of law-enforcement tactics as history went on. By 2010, according to historical reports, there were more than 45k annual requests for such warrants made to judges.

There is now a movement to ban them outright for obvious reasons. After the murder of Breonna Taylor in her own home (whereas it is believed she and her boyfriend assumed the police were intruders) — the police actually killed an innocent woman in a botched raid.
