There seems to be wild pattern with Donald Trump and international treaties — so much so that he just don’t like to belong to them as the head of state in America. On Thursday, it was revealed that the White House is aiming to exit the Open Skies Treaty due to allegations that Russia has reportedly been cheating its way through the pact this entire time.
The treaty itself allows countries to fly unmarked surveillance plnes over each other’s territory and was first introduced by Dwight D. Eisenhower in 1950. Although initially rejected by Moscow, it took decades for it to finally be approved by Moscow during the Bush administration.
This is actually now the third such international treaty that Trump has taken America out of, causing some to be concerned that he is once again opening up America to potential warfare. Reports suggest that the move to withdraw this one was in part to defence officials reportedly concerned that Russia may be using said planes to conduct cyber attacks on America while over US airspace.
