The war over El Chapo ‘s insanely massive portfolio has begun. El Chapo as of 2019 has been arrested and charged with 10 federal crimes and is currently serving a massive life sentence plus 30 years at ADX. Unless El Chapo stages a grand escape, he, will die in America’s most notorious supermax.
But now the government of Mexico and the American government are at odds over who should get the massive $12.6billion in assets that were seized during his arrest. The issue first arose after the Mexican government got wind of Chapo ‘s sentence — which they reportedly feel is “extreme and inhumane” even for a man accused of some of the most heinous crimes Mexico has ever seen.
The government feels that much of the case; the trial, the assets, and most of all the money should be returned to Mexico as he was primarily a Mexican citizen.
Meanwhile, social media is placing bets on how long it is before Chapo breaks out of even the ADX (the one prison that nobody has ever escaped).
