China ‘s Mars rover has made a fascinating discovery on the Red Planet in mankind’s quest to figure out planet’s history

A fascinating new discovery on Mars is this week’s entry into our Astronomy & Space newsletter.

According to researchers, China’s Mars rover appears to have made quite the discovery. For decades, researchers thought that water was probably trapped somewhere underneath the planet’s surface or somewhere around the crust. This also led to the belief that water probably only existed in these forms on the planet, however, there now appears to be a liquid form also. The discovery is of course important because the presence of water indicates that the planet would have one of the necessary ingredients for extraterrestrial life to flourish.

It was originally thought that it only existed in rocks and as a gas in water vapour. Officially the water forms when salts in the dunes cause frost to melt at low temperatures.
