Attacker in NYE machete attack identified as 3 NYPD cops remain hospitalized

New Years Eve turned violent last night in New York City as 3 NYPD officers some even rookies were attacked with a machete while on detail. According to reports, the attacker, 19, has now been identified but a motive isn’t clear. The attack happened between 51st and 52nd street and 8th avenue as NYE revelers had partied nearby under armed guard by the NYPD.

One of the cops, who is assigned to the Police Academy per reports, suffered a laceration to the head. A Staten Island officer suffered blunt force trauma to the head. They were both taken to Bellevue Hospital. 

A third officer suffered unknown injuries and was taken to Mt. Sinai West. All three were expected to recover.
