U.S House has cleared a landmark bill to protect interracial and same-sex marriages that may be in danger due to the GOP

Democrats have now cleared a landmark bill in the House that otherwise protects interracial and same-sex unions in the event that GOPers and the Supreme Court take aim at them in the future. The suggestion originally came after the court overturned Roe v Wade earlier this year when an opinion by Clarence Thomas suggested that same-sex marriages should be revisited. That is now virtually impossible.

The law means that the federal government in no way can invade same-sex marriages or interracial marriages going forward as it is now the law of the land. It does not directly codify same-sex marriages, however, the Respect for Marriage Act now makes it impossible for couples to be discriminated against once they are married. If a couple is married in New York and happens to be in Texas their marriage must be acknowledged. Couples in different states than those in which they were married, say for hospital stays, will also see that their marriage must be acknowledged without discrimination.

The Supremes can still overturn the right for such couples to marry, however, this bill ultimately would still mean that marriages performed in states where such remains legal must be acknowledged elsewhere.
