For the first time in decades, the Times has been hit with a mass walkout that began this morning at 12:01 am. The walkout is part of a mass coordinated effort to push the Times to get with the Times (no pun intended) and offer better benefits; remote work options and a much better starting salary considering inflation is a thing and New York City was already overpriced to start. News Guild who is leading the protest is also asking readers to forgo their daily Wordle game among others and to not ‘cross the digital picket line’ as means to stand in solidarity with employees.
It appears, however, that officials including the publisher of the Times aren’t interested in negotiations at all. Reps for the Times told multiple outlets that readers will still be served regardless and employees who take part in the protest will not be paid for the said time it took to take part in the aforementioned protest.
