Manhattan’s DA Alvin Bragg these days is known for allot of things and almost all of them have one common theme: not properly doing his job as district attorney. This time, it involves a woman named Tracy McCarter who is about to stand trial for the murder of her husband, whom, she has maintained throughout her case was violently abusive and destructive throughout their time together. Interestingly, Bragg appears to have been aware of McCarter’s case pre-dating his campaign for the D’s office in the borough.
This is where it gets dangerous and hypocritical folks. At the time, Bragg campaigned on the idea that it is wrong (and it is) to prosecute domestic violence victims in any way. Now, however, Bragg’s tune has changed an innocent woman is about to stand trial for murder when she was simply defending herself from a violent man.
Her name is Tracy McCarter and she is currently imprisoned at Rikers Island according to her Twitter page. Her trial is set to begin on 28 November in Manhattan.
We shall begin with a Sept 2020 tweet by Bragg in which he openly declares his support for Tracy.
This tweet however hasn’t aged well and is now proving that Alvin Bragg is unfit to sit as the District Attorney in Manhattan. Initially campaigning on setting this woman free as a domestic violence survivor, Bragg has ‘unjustly’ argued in two very weakly worded motions to essentially mitigate her case for her. Both of these thinly worded motions as we understand have been denied by the judge presiding over the case under the claim that Bragg simply didn’t put much effort into either motion.
We have to warn you guys this case is triggering and has several violent elements. Reading beyond this point might be triggering to some so please proceed with caution.
According to documents viewed by Bazaar Daily Wednesday evening, McCarter ‘s case dates all the way back to 2020. That year around 2 March 2020, McCarter was minding her business in her Upper West Side apartment had been working as a nurse in the city. That day per court records and documents viewed — McCarter was visited by her estranged and known-to-be-violent husband who was white.
McCarter is Black and this is one of many elements of this case that are striking and very concerning. Documents show that the man identified as James Murray had a ‘long history’ of violence against McCarter having previously beaten; struck, kicked, and repeatedly assaulted the woman he claimed he loved and was his ‘wife.’
It is understood that the two initially separated in 2019 and she had moved out of their then-home due to violence Murray was perpetuating against her on multiple occasions. But let’s make no mistake here just like Bragg is no innocent player here, neither was the previous DA Cyrus Vance in whom this case actually originates.
According to a previously published story on this case at the time of its origination, Murray arrived at her new home that afternoon when he demanded to be let in. Docs show that he claimed that he was drunk and had gotten himself locked out of his Airbnb apartment though what came next signals that were never true. McCarter was then forced to defend herself after he repeatedly demanded money from her for more booze (which she declined) and eventually was forced to stab him once in the chest due to his aggression towards her and violence.
New player alert: the NYPD.
Following that altercation (which had been one of many on record by this time) she was forced to attempt to perform first aid on Murray as she called 911. Upon the arrival of the NYPD., she was arrested and later deemed a flight risk because of her past as having worked as a travelling nurse. Yes folks a travelling nurse has been deemed a flight risk when it was evident she was the victim of domestic violence.
Let’s take an intermission here. Throughout the past year, Alvin Bragg the District Attorney in Manhattan has released the following criminals who have actually been accused of very real and very serious crime(s) even violent ones.
- Bragg cut deal that allows serial criminal to walk only for him to assault woman later. He was allowed to plead down following a major theft charge only to assault a woman weeks later. Bragg faced no consequences for all but allowing this to happen.
- Who can forget the infamous self-defense case of Jose Alba the elderly bodega worker Bragg also tried to prosecute over self-defense claims when he had to stab somebody in self-defense following a violent outburst in his store followed by an altercation. Bragg only dropped the charges after intense public backlash.
- Bragg knowingly assists in freeing a known gang member wanted for numerous stabbings.
- Despite campaigning on hoping to lower the population and admissions of people over at Rikers, admissions are actually up under Bragg (except many of them like Mccarter ‘s case shouldn’t even be there.)
Fast facts:
At the time this case took off, ADA Sara Sullivan attempted to argue that McCarter was motivated by jealousy over the fact the two had a so-called open relationship according to arguments Sullivan herself made. However numerous documents for this case indicate that the relationship may have always been open and consensually that way.
Bragg has falsely claimed he would not prosecute victims of domestic violence. This has turned out to be a lie and a campaign promise he went back on. This should apart from many other reasons be grounds to have Bragg recalled from office.
McCarter is facing 25 years to life in prison if Bragg does not wake up from behind the wheel and save her life.
Bragg ‘s office is trying to paint McCarter as a ‘violent jealous’ woman who went into a fit of rage and was a flight risk. They have maintained for most of the case that as a nurse; having $60,000 from a fundraiser her daughter raised, and having family outside of New York City that she was a risk. This appears to be in part why they are keeping her locked up.
