As Russia escalates its war, social media sites are vanishing from Russian internet amid Putin ‘s misinformation machine

In the most American-GOP way possible Russian media regulators have begun their suspected internet crackdown. Amid reports that journalism is now criminalised even further in the country, social media sites like Twitter and Facebook have now also been blocked amid claims that they “discriminate” against Russian media resources (mostly the state owned ones that disperse fake information.)

“Soon millions of ordinary Russians will find themselves cut off from reliable information, deprived of their everyday ways of connecting with family and friends and silenced from speaking out,” Nick Clegg, president of global affairs for Meta, Facebook’s parent company, wrote on Twitter in response. “We will continue to do everything we can to restore our services so they remain available to people to safely and securely express themselves and organize for action.”

Facebook has vowed to do what it has to do to restore service in the country hoping to find a way around censorshiip.
