Monster deal set to bring Pfizer ‘s game-changing COVID pill to half the world

A new deal by Pfizer is set to bring the company ‘s COVID pill to at least half of the operating world. On Tuesday, the company announced a joint megadeal that would help bring the COVID pill to low income countries. The company plans to work with Medicines Patent Pool to help generic drug makers make their game changing pill to bring it to an additional 95 countries.

The new pill will reportedly be called Paxlovid and will help become more accessible to countries who can’t otherwise afford millions of doses of the actual vaccine. The 5 day course of the treatment also does in fact include 10 pills of ritonavir a drug that is otherwise originally meant for treatment of HIV. Interestingly, the company is leaving out Brazil Cuba, Iraq, Libya, China, and Russia from having access to the pill under the lined up agreement.
