Teacher, 30, had sex with teen student numerous times now she just got away with it

Madeleine Schmaltz, 30, is making headlines this week for a number of reasons but mostly for the fact she’s gotten away with sexual assaulting a teenage student. This week, Schmaltz was sentenced to just three years probation and no jail time despite the fact that prosecutors in the Hermantown case found substantial evidence proving she raped her student numerous times.

During the spring of 2019, I was going through personal traumatic experiences that did cloud my judgment,’ Schmaltz said at the virtual hearing of State District Court, according to the Duluth News Tribune.

‘Since then, I’ve been working through those experiences, along with just trying to better myself, and I will continue to do so. I know that my clouded judgment has harmed the victim and the victim’s family, and for that I am truly sorry.’

She will however have to register as a predatory offender, although, her felony charge for sexual assault of a minor will be dropped to a misdemeanor if and when she completes her 3-year probation requirement.
