Our Critic had this to say about the film.
A brilliantly casted crazy-mom type movie, A Simple Favor, plays on how well it was actually type-casted. Kendrick and Lively together as essentially a villain and its would-be con-artist make for an excellent duo in this setting. Kendrick’s performance specifically deserves praise for her ability to remain convincing, and, more importantly keep viewers on edge guessing what happens next.
How far would you go to collect your spouses life insurance policy? [Spoiler Alert].
While great, the film, does indeed have a few lackluster points. At times it does often seem predictable, like most mommy films, but then it immediately makes up for them. Lively clearly stepped out of her comfort zone for this one, in fact, we haven’t seen this Lively since her classically devilish days on Gossip Girl.
Editors Comments: Stellar performances by Anna Kendrick and Blake Lively. Lively is certainly at her best, indeed, right down to her dark and unbothered persona as someone out for personal gain and will stop at nothing. The super-sleuthy Stephanie, however, is on the case.
