Following mass shooting, TN is moving to pass series of gun reform changes

Following the mass shooting that occurred earlier this month, Tennessee is now moving to pass a series of gun reform changes. On Tuesday, Governor Bill Lee signed an executive order effectively strengthening background checks for purchases of weapons. Lee also is moving to have a red flag law on the books in the state but such has to be passed by the legislature first.

“I’m asking the General Assembly to bring forward an order of protection law,” Lee told reporters in Nashville, according to The Tennessean. “A new, strong order of protection law will provide the broader population cover, safety, from those who are a danger to themselves or the population.”

This comes after the 3 April mass shooting that occurred at the Covenant School where shooter, Audrey Hale, 28, was able to buy 7 firearms despite at the time undergoing treatment for an unspecified emotional disorder.
