If it sounds like something straight out of The Last of Us that’s because it is. The American College of Physicians is sounding the alarm against the backdrop of a deadly fungus that is growing across America. According to researchers, that fungus has been identified as Candida auris, also known as C auris.
The fungus was already described in a 2019 CDC spread as a killer fungus because it kills about 60% of those in which it affects.
But clear new research from the CDC has revealed case numbers more than tripled across America between 2020 and 2021, with antibiotic-resistant strains also becoming more common.
