Bending to Republicans, an appeals court has placed Biden ‘s student loan forgiveness plan temporarily on ice

Last updated on 2022-10-22

Republicans remain consistent in their argument that forgiving student loans is illegal but somehow forgiving hundreds of thousands of dollars in PPP loans to GOPers who didn’t need them isn’t. According to an appeals court ruling, Biden ‘s Sunday benchmark to begin forgiving student loans has now been put on pause to allow more time for the GOPs case to be heard. Six GOP-led states (almost all have a very low benchmark for college-educated people) argue that forgiving student loans unfairly targets those who didn’t go to college.

WH Press Sec Karen Jean-Pierre released this statement on Friday amid the ruling.

“Tonight’s temporary order does not prevent borrowers from applying for student debt relief at studentaid.gov – and we encourage eligible borrowers to join the nearly 22 million Americans whose information the Department of Education already has. It also does not prevent us from reviewing these applications and preparing them for transmission to loan servicers.”

As a reminder, you can go to studentaid.gov to apply although the application will remain on pause pending the GOPs tantrum.
