Here’s what to expect when Queen Elizabeth passes away

Amid concerns that the Queen may be nearing the end — many are wondering what happens in the event of the monarch’s actual passing. That in itself is quite the process and a ton has to happen behind the scenes before the public actually becomes fully aware that she has actually died.

Firstly, in a rare move Buckingham Palace has confirmed that Queen Elizabeth is at Balmoral and is under strict medical supervision per doctors orders. This comes just days after she appointed the new Prime Minister Liz Truss, who has issued a statement citing that most of the UK sends its prayers.

What’s up first?

Upon her death Prince Charles becomes King and is expected to be King Charles III. Though as it is understood he would have the right to legally choose his own name. Following this the country would enter a period of mourning particularly because an entire generation of Britain has never known life without Her Majesty.

If she dies in London and even regardless the public will formally learn of her passing after a notice has been placed on the gates of Buckingham Palace. Palace staff will be required to wear black arm bands on their left arm.

The press scramble

Broadcast stations and all types of newspapers have their own protocols for the death of the Queen. Some have code words others still call it Operation London Bridge the official code name for the death itself by officials at the palace and the government. For example, we have a code word phrase which will be pretty obvious when the time comes. It will be obvious because like other newspapers our homepage will turn black with a photograph of the Queen.

Major broadcasters including ITV and Sky will be required to wear black during broadcasts and the like. Most news outlets in the country that regularly publish and maintain an audience all have ready made stories (we’ve had ours prepared for quite some time.) On air DJS and such across the broadcast spectrum will see a blue flashing light which will indicate they must cease their show and cut to news immediately.

The aftermath and Charles’ coronation

The coronation will take place a few months or so after the queen’s formal passing. For about 10 days between the passing and so on — her body will remain at Buckingham Palace so the royals can spend time together in her memory. This will follow a state funeral and so on where government officials attend and then government officials from around the world attend.

She will also lie in state in Westminster Abbey giving the public a chance to mourn further.

What if she dies at Balmoral?

Things do change a bit if she dies at her Scottish castle. As we understand she will be taken to Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh. She will then be carried up the Royal Mile to St. Giles Cathedral for a formal funeral. By this point, the public will likely already be notified as they then will be given the opportunity to toss flowers and watch the royal train depart for London carrying the Queen’s body.
