SCOTUS delivers big blow to Biden ‘s private vaccine mandate

Joe Biden ‘s attempt at a sweeping nationwide vaccine mandate has been blocked by the Supreme Court. According to the court, Biden’s administration cannot enforce the rule that would’ve required employers with more than 100 or so people to force them to get the vaccine.

As CNN notes, it was eventually ruled in a separate ruling and mentioned a few times that it was understood that OSHA overstepped its authority in attempting to enforce the mandate to begin with. Further, the court ruled separately that such a mandate for healthcare workers can in fact proceed. That part of the rule, per the court, must be done by a separate agency along with any attempts to protect Medicaid and Medicaire patients.

This afternoon the WH released the following statement on behalf of Biden in response to the news.

“I am disappointed that the Supreme Court has chosen to block common-sense life-saving requirements for employees at large businesses that were grounded squarely in both science and the law,” Biden said.

Moving forward, Biden said “it is now up to States and individual employers to determine whether to make their workplaces as safe as possible for employees, and whether their businesses will be safe for consumers during this pandemic by requiring employees to take the simple and effective step of getting vaccinated.”
