Firebreak lockdown; tampons, and Tesco. If that sounds like the subject of a conservative memo — that’s because that’s just what it appears to be. Over the weekend, a woman known only as Katie decidedly went to Tesco to buy her feminine products as one normally would.
One could easily guess that controversy quickly followed.
What is a firebreak lockdown?
The Welsh Government implemented a confusing ban on non-essential items amid rising cases of the Coronavirus. Somebody high up in the government told Tesco not to tell tampons at their store — otherwise this wouldn’t have happened. This is called a firebreak lockdown — which is “designed” to prevent people from spending allot of time in stores. The problem is that women’s tampons are most definitely essential.
The government has since backed down from the apparent ban on the item, although, it is unclear who tried to enact it to begin with.
