ATLANTA, GEORGIA — This might sound like something straight out of a Republican playbook, but that’s because it actually very much is. According to LGBTQ Nation, cops in Georgia are in the news today as it has emerged that they’re secretly using apps like Grindr to set gay men up in undercover stings. Those stings see gay men falsely labelled drug dealers & prostitutes — but only after the men are convinced to bring poppers to otherwise innocent hook-ups.
For those that don’t know poppers are a widely known product used to otherwise ease the discomfort from anal sex. The bizarre stings appear to be coming out of the Dawson County Sheriff ‘s Department in Georgia. The stings appear to show officers posing as otherwise horny men looking for a hook-up, requesting that their “friend” bring poppers to the encounter.
The officer in question has been identified as: SGT Dereck Johnson who posed as the undercover man tricking the unsuspecting man into a set-up.
“Charlie[looking for]420” per reports obtained by Project Q has been identified as the officer’s user name. In the warrant, Johnson claims that the man solicited him and otherwise did so in exchange for marijuana but the messages actually show that Johnson proposed the idea of marijuana.
