Boris Johnson, perhaps Britain’s newest and greatest con artist, is in deep trouble with the outgoing Speaker of the Commons. Bercow confirmed on Friday that he has warned the Prime Minister about the consequences of ignoring the newly formed law, that bars Johnson ‘s hopes of a no-deal Brexit.
On Monday, lawmakers passed a new law that bars Johnson from moving forward with his plan and if no deal is reached he must ask for an extension in Europe. That feat alone is already something Johnson said he would rather die than have to actually take part in. Grave legal consequences may be dead ahead for Johnson, who has made it crystal clear he intends to ignore the law.
“One should no more refuse to request an extension of Article 50 because of what one might regard as the noble end of departing from the EU as soon as possible, than one could excuse robbing a bank on the basis that the cash stolen would be donated to a charitable cause immediately afterwards,” Bercow said.
