Facebook Inc is finally cracking down on fake news. According to the social network, some 800+ accounts have been shut down in connection to either spreading fake news or outright being a bot related to fake news.
The move comes after months of speculation and controversy over the part that Facebook allegedly played in the spreading of Russian lies during the 2016 election. Per the network, between March and October last year alone the network blocked and or flat-out restricted upwards of 1.3B accounts.
Facebook also confirmed to The Daily News in e-mailed statements that they’ve built “what may be considered a war room” with a dedicated staff to fight the presence of fake accounts and fake news on their platform.
