AT&T says customer info for more than 73m customers has been stolen and leaked onto the dark web

Big announcement for AT&T customers. According to a readout from the company, the company was compromised two weeks ago in terms of private user account information — here is what to know.

The Lowdown

AT&T in an announcement on Saturday confirmed that private information for more than 73m customers was leaked online. The company acknowledged that an investigation is underway and that the social security numbers were understood to be included in the back.

“It is not yet known whether the data … originated from AT&T or one of its vendors,” the company according to numerous outlets. “Currently, AT&T does not have evidence of unauthorized access to its systems resulting in exfiltration of the data set.”

Officially, about 7.5m current customers about 65m former customers of various kinds are understood to be affected. The data according to the telecommunicatioons company comes from 2019 or before.
