Donald Trump is once again trying to use the legal system he previously helped stack to his own advantage. According to reports, Trump and his team have filed an emergency appeal over the ruling that found he did not nor has he ever had Presidential immunity from crimes he has been found to have committed while in office.
The Lowdown
The AP reports that this appeal comes to SCOTUS following a string of legal defeats in federal court most of which found the argument of immunity flimsy and not present. “Without immunity from criminal prosecution, the Presidency as we know it will cease to exist,” Trump’s lawyers wrote. Trump is also asking for a delay in his federal election interference trial maintaing that he is immune despite his mounting legal losses.
