The Bail Project is no longer operating. According to media reports published this week, the once hot-to-trot bail organization backed by some of Hollywood’s biggest names closed its doors amid reports of a massive misstep on its own accord. At the time, they had helped free a serial criminal who went on to almost literally murder someone just days after he was released from prison.
Rashawn Gaston-Anderson, who had been arrested in November 2021 for burglary and theft, had been released by The Bail Project after it paid his $3,000 bail has been identified as the person in question. Ironically, six days later he went on a gun-toting rampage inside of a Vegas restaurant shooting waiter Chengyan Wang eleven times nearly killing him. Wang has since sued the organization.
