Instagram is now blocked in Russia

Amid the country wide crackdown by Putin’s cronies, Instagram users in Russia are now blocked on the so-called grounds of housing misinformation and harmful content against Russians. The country’s internet regulator announced on Sunday that starting at midnight locale time in Russia, the app would no longer be allowed inside the region.

Users in the region appear to have received the following notice from government officials in an e-mail.

“We need to ensure the psychological health of citizens, especially children and adolescents, to protect them from harassment and insults online,” regulator Roskomnadzor said.
