Facebook adds swathes of new protections following bombshell revelations by whistleblower

Following the bombshell revelations made by one of their own employees — FB has announced a series of new protections on their site in an effort to satisfy some demands made.

Among those demands, for example, is the idea that facebook lacked an appropriate response to targeted bullying & personal or sexual attacks against celebrities.

The new protections also extend to others including journalists and the like. In the same announcement — both celebrities voluntary and those involuntarily public figures will be able to have things removed. Sexualizing celebrities is now not okay on Facebook (severely anyway), whilst, neither is attacks about them as a person.

Involuntary folks who are marked as public figures will be able to instruct Facebook what content they’d like removed.

Interestingly, the move also applies to government accounts that take part in coordinated harassment campaigns in any way.
