NYC schools close; 3rd person dies, and more – Coronavirus Update

NEW YORK — A third person in New York has now died from the Coronavirus. According to Governor Andrew Cuomo, the third person died sometime in the past 48 hours. Not much else was revealed about the person.

Next up, as of Monday NYS/NYC schools across the board will be closed until April 20th. That includes the city of New York after several days of reluctancy from De Blasio himself. The move hopes to combat the spread of the COVID-19 virus among young ones who likely would eventually pass it on to the elders in their lives.

“To say the least, this is a very troubling moment, a moment where I am just distraught at having to take this action,” said de Blasio, who had been under pressure from schools; bloggers, and community members about his refusal to do so.

“But I became convinced over the course of today that there was no other choice,” de Blasio said — adding that New York City is now up to five dead and 329 confirmed cases of the virus.

A reminder to parents: Distance learning (online) begins 23 March. NYC schools may be closed for the remainder of the school year if the virus doesn’t get contained and contained fast.
