Golden Krust founder Lowell Hawthorne is pictured.

Reported Monday, the New York Post, has apparently learned why the creator of the Golden Krust Jamaican  patty empire has killed himself. According to the paper, the food entrepreneur killed himself over apparent evasion of taxes.   The paper claims to have learned that Lowell Hawthorne “evaded millions of dollars in taxes and then told numerous members of his family about it”.

“He had been talking weird and acting strange in the hours before his suicide” reads a paragraph from the Post.  Surveillance video reportedly seen by The Post shows Hawthorne in his Park Avenue office “clearly disturbed” and “in possession of a gun”.

Hawthorne first founded his empire in 1989, and, employed several family members. Per NYPD officials who spoke on the condition of anonymity,  an investigation, is currently underway.
