Trump ‘s trial: Fraud trial is underway, here are a few things to expect as New York seeks to kick Donald Trump to the curb for good

Indicted former President Donald Trump is in New York today for the hotly anticipated fraud trial that threatens the very future of his business empire. As many know, last week Judge Engoron ruled that Trump in fact committed fraud and the trial would proceed without a jury.

Ahead of the hearing, Trump of course took to Truth Social to slam officials in the state including Attorney General Letitia James as “corrupt” and the judge as “unfair, unhinged and vicious” for what he called a “sham” case but provided no evidence to prove such.

What’s at stake?

In the trial, six decisions must be made before James case could take a really bad turn for Donald. In the case, James is not only seeking $250m in damages but is also seeking to bar Trump from doing business in New York ever again. His Trump tower; a suburban estate, a few golf courses, and some other properties are all on the line with this ruling.

Trump on his part has called the move a corporate death penalty.

What to expect

Trump’s trial formally got underway just after 10am local time and is set to end at 4:30 pm local time going forward. The trial will last approximately three months and the only different day will be Friday.

Elsewhere in Trump universe

Later this year, Trump will head back to the courtroom in New York over a civil case brought by writer E Jean Carroll. Carroll sued him a second time following a successful first time after he repeated various lies about her to the press.
