That now infamous new variant of the Coronavirus first found in Botswana has been detected in Europe. According to scientific researchers in Europe, the first known case appears to have been detected in Belgium. This strain of the virus appears to be able to quickly mutate (much faster than the one) and may have already more than 30 or so mutations.
This variant is called B.1.1.529.
In that country, an unvaccinated woman with no known history of travel to the African continent turned up with a case of the virus. The unidentified woman reportedly showed mild symptoms about 11 days after traveling from Egypt to Belgium by way of Turkey.
As a result of the find and the declaration that this variant may be far more transmissable than the last, officials across Europe are blanket banning travel from several African countries.
The New York Times reports that American officials are now exploring a travel ban from the continent amid the new variant spreading. We’d like to remind people that it is winter time apart from other things — please remember to wash and sanitise your hands where appropriate.
