Victory: China to free top human rights lawyer

China1BEIJING — Pu Zhiqiang, is a free man. China’s most prominent human rights lawyer is reportedly set to go free according to the country’s ruling Communist Party.  China’s governing body announced Tuesday afternoon that he would be released — after much protest and brouhaha over his arrest to begin with.

Pu Zhiqiang, was originally arrested in 2014 after criticizing the country’s Communist Party online.  Such actions are actually illegal in the country, and carry sentences of three years and above in prison.  Per the Communist Party,  his sentence of three years has reportedly formally been suspended — however because he remains with a guilty verdict he can no longer practice law.
