SCOTUS has decided to leave a gun ownership ban in place for those who  are the subject(s) of restraining orders

Supreme Court has decided against lifting a ban on individuals who are the subject of restraining orders from owning a firearm.   According to reports, the justices decided against lifting the ban for the safety of the general public.

The Lowdown

According to the ruling,  the ban will remain in place which was the outcome sought by domestic violence survivor’s advocates and others. 

“Since the founding, our Nation’s firearm laws have included provisions preventing individuals who threaten physical harm to others from misusing firearms,” Chief Justice John Roberts  penned  for the 8-1 majority. ” As applied to the facts of this case, [the current law] fits comfortably within this tradition.”
