With Marine Le Pen ‘s National Rally taking hold in parts of the election, Le Pen ‘s growing popularity will only further destabilize an already troubled Europe.
The Lowdown
What was once the unthinkable now seems like the most plausible in a country where the far-right has spent months building itself up to this point. The far-flung often extreme party gained ground over the weekend after Le Pen ‘s party gained steam during the snap-election ironically called by President Emmanuel Macron. The first round of voting saw Le Pen ‘s party gain about 33% of the vote.
An increasingly divided France appears to be slated to undergo profound change that may not end well for all involved. Le Pen does not believe in immigration among other things and such hardline anti-well-anything policies are expected to take front-and-centre as the party seeks to cement its power.
