India, which is home to some 1.4B people, may soon see new air conditioning rules in place to save energy. According to officials, a new rule proposes that new ACs sold in the country go no lower than 68 degrees.

The Lowdown

Indian citizens surely aren’t going to be thrilled about this one. According to the AP, officials proposed a rule in the country last month that would drastically limit what people can do with their air conditioners in their homes. Per the rule, officials proposed that all new ACs sold in the country go no lower than 68 degrees entirely. The move hasn’t sat well with some, considering India is notoriously hot and humid.

The AP notes that in 2024, during periods of peak energy use, room air conditioners accounted for more than a quarter of all energy needs nationwide.
